Cricket along with Baseball/Softball, Flag football, Lacrosse and Squash to be included in Los Angeles Olympics 2028. This historic decision was taken in the IOC(International Olympics Committee) meeting held in Mumbai. This is the return of cricket in olympics after 128 years.
Cricket is one of the most popular games in the world and has second most viewership (250 crores) after Football (350 crores). The viewership of India-Pakistan-Sri Lanka matches prove that cricket doesn’t need olympics but olympics need cricket as it will benefit Olympics for approx 2227 crores. The popularity of cricket stars like Virat Kohli who has fan following of 250 million on social media is also one of the main reason behind IOC’s decision.
BCCI Secretary Jay shah said that inclusion of Cricket in 2028 Olympics is the first step for India to host Olympics in 2036
